Any organisation claiming compliance with ISO 26262:2018 has to prove that they have a suitable safety culture. In a functional safety assessment, the assessor will need to confirm the safety culture is adequate. But there is no fixed method of evaluation, and it is difficult to quantify. Therefore their is a big risk to any development of failing the assessment either because the safety culture is not adequate, or the assessor believes it to not be adequate.
This eBook defines a method to provide objective evidence and argumentation using goal structured notation that the safety culture is adequate. That has been used to successfully pass functional safety assessments completed by external organisations within the automotive industry.
Following this guide also assists you to understand where you may have weaknesses in your safety culture, and provides guidance for how to improve each area in order to strengthen the safety culture and give the required evidence.
